People and Lifestyle

One of the primary reasons people are attracted to Pinecrest, particularly families, is because it's one of the few Miami suburbs renowned for its classic suburban peace and quiet. There isn’t much nightlife here. Not only are the homes and tree-lined streets beautiful and serene to look at, but this is a kid-friendly location with excellent schools and an abundance of parks.

Residents appreciate the quiet, subdued way of life, and with so many outdoor resources and recreational opportunities, locals are always out riding bikes or walking through the pedestrian-friendly area.

Dining, Shopping, and Entertainment

Enjoy a glass of wine paired with savory Italian food at Anacapri, a cozy family-run eatery nestled in a local strip mall. Their chicken masala and gnocchi dishes are customer favorites. Apizza Brooklyn Resto + Vino serves gourmet brick-oven pizza topped with housemade mozzarella and whatever toppings you'd like. Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza is a casual chain known for its charred-crust pies and wings.

Pinecrest is home to several international restaurants and cafés. If you're craving ceviche, Dr. Limon is a must. This Peruvian restaurant is a Pinecrest staple. Apart from Dr. Limon, Daily Bread is a Middle East kitchen specializing in Greek, Mediterranean, and Lebanese cuisine. 1111 Peruvian Bistro is another Peruvian favorite. Build your own sushi rolls and teriyaki at Miyako.

You'll have a hard time resisting the sweet smells emanating from French artisanal bakery La Boulangerie Boul'Mich. Pick up some pastries on your way home. Your family will thank you! French Bakery is a bakery and wine boutique in Miami serving freshly made coffees, lunch specials, pastries, sandwiches, macarons, and more. Another popular local bakery is the 24-hour Cuban-American bakery chain Pinecrest Bakery.

Wayside Market is a cute outdoor marketplace where you can stock up on fresh produce and even grab a fresh fruit smoothie from the market juice bar for the road! Try something different at Diced, a healthy casual eating experience specializing in nutritious choices like grilled proteins and veggies.

Pinecrest also has several popular chain restaurants for an upscale night out, like PF Changs or casual spots like Five Guys. Roasters' N Toasters is a New York-style deli in Miami ideal for lunches.

Things to Do

There are so many fantastic and well-maintained parks in South Florida that it's hard to figure out the best ones to visit, but in Pinecrest, the 10-acre Suniland Park is considered a favorite among parents. With a covered playground, a stunning coral gazebo, and a recreation center, Suniland has plenty to do.

Evelyn Greer Park is another 10-acre space with a gazebo, free Wi-Fi throughout, batting cages, a play area, and a recreation center. Coral Pine Park is slightly smaller than Evelyn Greer or Suniland Park, but it's a natural green space with six lighted tennis courts and an all-purpose field. Located in the Village of Pinecrest, it's an idyllic spot for a family picnic or barbecue.

The Pinecrest Farmers Market is an excellent place to spend a weekend morning. You will find a variety of items here — including unusual things you won't find anywhere else, like uncommon fruits or vegan specialties. Vendors sell everything from fresh produce and ceviche to arts and crafts.

There are two botanical gardens in the area: Pinecrest Gardens and Fairchild Tropical Gardens. Pinecrest Gardens has a fascinating history as the original site of the theme park Parrot Jungle. Today, the gardens encompass more than 14 acres of vibrant, lush foliage. Also known as the South Florida Cultural Arts Center, the gardens showcase natural attractions in addition to hosting year-round community events and festivals.

Fairchild Tropical Gardens is larger, with more than 80 acres of tropical gardens, coastal and rainforest habitat. It is one of the country's premier botanical gardens.

Schools

The Miami-Dade County Public Schools system serves Pinecrest students. Private schools in the area include Gulliver Preparatory, Bet Shira Congregation, Kendall United Methodist, Pinecrest Presbyterian, Temple Beth Am, and St. Louis Covenant School.
